#GucciBeauty
This past weekend, I found myself in a very fancy and very private New York members only club which, I think it’s safe to say, was a first for me.
I had the pleasure of attending Gucci’s launch party on Saturday for their new lipstick collection – the first debut from a new Gucci Makeup line by Alessandro Michele that celebrates unabashed authenticity, perfect imperfections, and a come-as-you-are ethos. Starring Dani Miller, the lead singer of punk band Surfbort, and models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins, Gucci’s lipstick campaign was unexpectedly bare. The models donned no foundation in the campaign and wore only the lipsticks on their lips, cheeks and eyes. This unanticipated approach to beauty has been so refreshing to experience, especially from a giant fashion house like Gucci. As model Mae Lapres said, “I never feel good enough, but Gucci celebrates me for me” (paraphrased, but you get the gist).
Gucci’s 58 lipstick shades come in three diverse formulations: Rouge à Lèvres Satin (v v pigmented), Rouge à Lèvres Voile (more sheer), and Baume à Lèvres (lip balm with a translucent finish). While all of them are great on the cheeks as well, only a few are suitable for eyes. And if you’re wondering which one is my favourite? Definitely the Rouge à Lèvres Voile in Goldie Red.
